Custom streaming platform

Your own video product, where viewers access the content by subscription — one login, one payment, unlimited experience. A workout series, online course, premium podcast, documentary catalogue, niche community content — it really works when you're not paying an external platform a monthly cut of your revenue.

Custom streaming platform

What is it actually for?

It's the ideal choice when new content appears regularly that you want to share with paying viewers — and you want to avoid a third-party platform (YouTube, Patreon, Vimeo OTT) dictating your pricing, marketing tools and customer data.

Typical use cases: an online course academy, a gym's home workout packages, therapy programmes, live broadcasts for faith communities, a premium documentary catalogue, niche professional training.

What do we build in?

Stripe subscription management (monthly/annual plans, free trial, plan changes, automatic retry on failed payment), coupons and promo codes, and the full billing flow tuned to local VAT — NAV online invoicing integration with Billingo or Számlázz.hu.

The video infrastructure is provided by Mux or Vimeo (or Bunny.net / Cloudflare Stream on request): adaptive bitrate streaming, multi-level resolution (from mobile 360p to 4K), and signed URLs usable only by authenticated subscribers. DRM (Widevine, FairPlay) is an option for content protection.

Experience, community and growth

A user account with its own profile, watch history, favourites and notes. Gated (paywalled) previews, so non-paying visitors get a taste too — and can easily convert into subscribers. Push and email notifications for new content.

Measurement from the start: which content brings the most new subscribers, where drop-off happens, what the monthly churn rate is. We build the marketing and content strategy from these — because a streaming platform pays off when monthly subscriber revenue is durably higher than churn.

Scaling and operations

The infrastructure runs on a global CDN, so a viewer in Budapest gets picture just as fast as one in New York. Transcoding and storage run on the video provider's side (Mux/Vimeo) — meaning traffic doesn't load your own server, and cost scales linearly with viewer-hours.

We design mobile-first: the web and mobile-web experience work the same, but a native iOS and Android app can be built on top too (with Apple App Store and Google Play in-app purchase integration, if you'd like).

Frequently asked questions

How much does developing a platform like this cost?

A launch MVP (subscription + video catalogue + basic viewer experience) is HUF 8–18 million. A more complex version (mobile apps, community features, live streaming) is HUF 25–60 million. The monthly costs of the video and payment services depend on traffic, typically HUF 5,000–15,000 per thousand viewer-hours.

Which video providers do you work with?

Mux (most flexible, developer-friendly), Vimeo (with ready-made UI components), Bunny.net (good value), Cloudflare Stream. The choice depends on traffic, live-streaming needs and DRM requirements — we review it together during selection.

How do you protect content from downloading?

In several layers: signed streaming URLs (only the authenticated subscriber can play), HLS/DASH encryption, optional DRM (Widevine for Android, FairPlay for iOS). There's no 100% protection, but this practically filters out serious content theft.

Can you do live streaming too?

Yes — Mux and Cloudflare Stream both support low-latency live streaming. Live chat, a viewer counter, and automatic recording of the broadcast are available by default on request.
